Project Friendship Society Funraising

Like all charities, fundraising is vital to the success and operation of our charity. In order to receive funding it's necessary to have matching community support. We'd like to thank our volunteers and community supporters for their generous support of our efforts to connect isolated disabled people into the community. Please see individual appreciation under each fundraising activity.

SPIRITUAL HERITAGE Limited Edition Print:

In 1962 Reverend Lance Morgan became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Prince George, retiring in 1998. In 1990 Lance became a founding director and an active past president of the Project Friendship Society. He has connected many special needs people into the community by encouraging them to participate and be valued.

As an example Lance connected Thomas Penner, a gentleman with Down Syndrome at the First Baptist Church in 1990. To this day Thomas continues to be a valued member of the church where he attends services Sundays, folds bulletins Fridays, and helps clean the Sanctuary Mondays.

Lance was also instrumental in forming the Joyful Tone Choir under the sponsorship of the First Baptist Church. Lance was nominated Prince George Citizen of the Year in 1984, received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario in 1990, and became the City's honorary chaplain in 2001. Lance's love of photography started as a young photojournalist in Jamaica.

The Project Friendship Society would like to thank Lance for his continued support and the use of his "Spiritual Heritage" photo of the St. Lawrence, Catholic Church in Salmon Valley, BC.

The print is available to you as a gift with a minimum donation of $40.00.

McGregor Mountain Grizzlies was painted by by Sandra Nahornoff, BC Wildlife Artist of the Year 2006. It was painted for Bob & Barbara Harkins by Sandra Nahornoff, the Project Friendship Society Coordinator. This magical place is in the mountains above Penny, east of Prince George. A place Bob had many great adventures with his friends, including Clarence and his brother Jack Boudreau.

Jack's book "Grizzly Bear Mountain" shares many grizzly tales from this area. Including a special tale of a rendezvous on the mountain to celebrate friendship, and share a forty-year-old bottle of wine saved for this occasion. Sadly, the painting wasn't completed before Bob passed away, but stands in his memory. Bob founded the Project Friendship Society to help isolated special needs people become part of the community. He believed a strong community is a place where everyone is welcomed and valued.

250 of the prints were sponsored by the Novak Family Foundation to support Project Friendship Society's efforts to connect people with special needs into the community.

The print is available to you as a gift with a minimum donation of 160.00.

Annual Bob Harkins Fishing Derby:

In 2004 the Project Friendship Society hosted our first annual fishing derby as a fundraiser to help connect people with special needs into the community. As Bob Harkins founded the charity we named the derby after him. The last Sunday of June 2009 saw our sixth successful derby. We'd like to thank our wonderful sponsors, donors and volunteers for their great support over the years!

Give Back Event:

On March 21st, 2009 the Project Friendship Society held our first Give Back Event sponsored by BC Gaming. This very special event saw eighty-four volunteers, more than half of which have special needs, collect, sort and prepared care packages for the needy. They prepared 45 bags stuffed with approximately $1,300 worth of items, which were delivered to the Elizabeth Fry Society and the John Howard Society for distribution. Our charity received $50 for each volunteer that participated.

The funds have been used to update the PG Connector a Guide to Local Clubs & Interest Groups, which is included on this website. This directory information to help connect special needs people into the community. We'd like to thank the First Baptist Church for granting the use of their church for the event, Royal Lepage and 4 Imprint for the bags used to put the items in, along with Gaming and all the great participants.

Fundraising Dinners & Other Events:

The Project Friendship has hosted two fundraising dinners thanks to Dawn and crew at Riverstone Bar & Grill and at Steamers Pub, 2008 and 2009. Both events went over well and the roast beef dinners were good. We had a small silent auction at each along with entertained by local belly dancing troupe. The funds raised are helping connect people with special needs into the community.
